Avālence’s hydrogen generators are electrochemical devices which convert water and electricity into high purity pressurized hydrogen gas, using electrolysis. Avālence’s electrolysis process uses a liquid electrolyte and a separation process with oxygen and heat as the by products. Users can connect to existing water supplies and both renewable and conventional electrical sources making it available in a wide range of locations.
The Hydrofiller produces hydrogen gas
at the ultra-high-pressures (up to 6,500 psi) needed for efficient
gas storage and distribution, without a separate compressor. This
single innovation significantly reduces the cost of the Hydrofiller
product line, and also more importantly, eliminates a complex
and high maintenance component found with competitors’ electrolyzers.
The Hydrofiller’s unique configuration
minimizes moving parts to increase system reliability and ease
of operation. Additionally, it allows flexibility for easy integration
with fluctuating renewable energy sources (solar, wind, hydro)
and does not require power conditioning equipment.
Avālence has a “modular” Hydrofiller product offering with the following models available for demonstration projects and early adopter partnering:

The model number indicates the nominal hydrogen production in
standard cubic feet per hour (scfh) at 70% production efficiency.
All models are available at Maximum Rated Pressure up to 6,500
psi. Additionally, a utility-scale unit, the Hydrofiller
5000 is under development. The above table lists
the basic specifications of these units. Because of the modular
arrangement of our cell arrays, systems can be easily modified
and ganged to meet larger capacity hydrogen output than that of
any given Hydrofiller module. Our entire
product line can store the hydrogen fuel product in high-pressure
cylinders either inside the unit or in a separate compartment.
A detailed Specification Sheet for our standard models outlining
basic mechanical and operating parameters is available upon request.
The Avālence Hydrofillers are
ideally suited for supplying ultra-high-pressure gas to cylinder
storage for a broad range of transportation, renewable energy
storage and onsite industrial uses. Avālence also welcomes
custom applications for military or commercial use.
Transportation: Compressed hydrogen gas stored
onboard the vehicle at ultra-high-pressure (i.e. 5,000 psi and
above) is the preferred modality for mobile hydrogen applications.
The Avālence Hydrofiller delivers
hydrogen at the high pressures needed for transportation, whether
pure hydrogen or blended hydrogen fuel applications. Standard
capacity Hydrofiller models are suitable
for captive fleet refueling. When fed with electricity generated
from a renewable energy source, the Avālence Hydrofiller
produces a totally emission-free, clean and sustainable hydrogen
fuel supply.
Industrial: Increasingly, industrial users of
hydrogen find that onsite production proves to be less expensive
than delivered hydrogen. Onsite production is favored when hydrogen
is needed for high-volume, low-pressure applications (ie. up to
3,000 psi), frequently in remote locations. Avālence is working
with regional industrial gas distributors to identify these growing
opportunities.
Renewable Power: Electrolysis is the most direct
method for creating hydrogen fuel from fluctuating renewable power
sources. The Avālence Hydrofiller
enables 24-hour electricity availability from these inherently
intermittent energy sources (solar, wind, hydraulic, tidal). Hydrogen
produced during inexpensive or excess power production periods
can be stored and later distributed to stationary fuel cell generators
to supply electricity during expensive or peak demand periods.
Military: The Hydrofiller
is suitable for the rigorous demands of military applications.
For example, Hydrofillers are ideal
for use in forward locations in conjunction with deployable PV
arrays.
Product Support:
Product Technical Support: Avālence offers ongoing technical support which entails remote monitoring, help desk, and field service. The benefits are operational assurance, data capture and scheduled routine or on-demand maintenance.
Engineering Services
Avālence, LLC offers engineering services to address the
system issues involved in integrating renewable and hydrogen systems
for energy storage and vehicle fueling applications.
Feasibility Studies: Provide feasibility evaluation of plans for hydrogen projects. Once feasibility is established we can provide technical and budgetary requirements planning.
Integration: Avālence will also specify and procure system components such as inverters, storage facilities, fuel cells, and fuel dispenser to ensure that both the energy used directly from the renewable source and the energy stored in the form of hydrogen are available to meet the demand – whether that demand is an electrical load or fueling a hydrogen or hydrogen/natural gas blend vehicle. We have experience integrating both photovoltaic arrays and wind turbines directly to our Hydrofiller electrolysis units.
Custom Design: We can custom configure our electrolysis cells to meet special customer needs. We can custom design the control logic and the power circuitry to effectively manage the use and storage of the renewable energy to meet the specific energy use goals of a given application. If desired, Avālence can take the control logic and the power circuitry design through the fabrication process to deliver the completed power control system.
Field Technical Support: Remote monitoring, help desk, and field service. The benefits are operational assurance, data capture and both scheduled and emergency maintenance.
Project Management: Avālence continues to participate in multi-company demonstration consortia requiring rigorous project management and communication discipline. The executive team has experience in managing sophisticated product engagements.
